What are the entry opportunities with a bachelor’s degree? Is a master’s degree beneficial?

The Bachelor is the first official degree and title of a university study program. Therefore, bachelor graduates are perfectly qualified for successful job entry. The education is broad and wide-ranging which is something companies appreciate. A master's program may be necessary for highly specialized tasks.

Do employers provide the opportunity to get a master's degree while working?

Employers are usually open to this if the master’s degree is relevant for the position. However, this can vary from company to company. Get active and talk to your employer about development opportunities!

Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Xing - how can you use social media for the application process?

In times of Web 2.0, your social media appearance does, of course, matter when it comes to the application process. It can be quite interesting for HR managers to search the Internet for you once they have your application. So, before you even start applying: "self-Google". It's not necessarily about removing every party photo from your profile, but about taking the time to reflect on how you are perceived from the outside. You want to convey reliability and competence on social media platforms as well. Also, differentiate between public and private profiles.

When (in which semester) does it make sense to apply for internships?

In general, we recommend gaining a wide range of professional experience during the course of your studies in order to deepen and apply your theoretical knowledge. Entry-level positions may require practical experience or be the decisive factor that determines whether or not you get the job. So, after the first or second semester you can definitely begin applying for internships that interest you. However, pay attention to the specific requirements of each position and make sure you meet them. Highly qualified internships are probably better left for the second phase of your study program.

What application documents do I need to send when applying via e-mail?

Pay attention to what is asked or required in the job ad regarding the application. In any case, a résumé and a letter of motivation are an integral part of a compelling application. In addition, you can attach relevant references and certificates, but don‘t overdo it. 2 to 3 certificates are more than enough.

Tip: Combine several certificates into 1 PDF file.

What should the subject line say?

The subject line should be clear and ideally include the job title, e.g.: Application for "Project Manager" position. If a job or reference number is listed, include it in the subject line.

What company information is relevant for the application?

Make sure your information is up to date. Use various sources to prepare for a presentation at the company, e.g.: daily press, journals and magazines, Internet, networking contacts or libraries. Try to gather as much information as possible about company size and structure, subsidiaries, products/services, strategic direction and latest developments/plans. Also, look for information about tasks/work content regarding the desired position as well as the respective department.
